Flagstaff contains a busy railroad which intersects the town center, and therefore light sleepers should be aware of this and look for accommodation elsewhere, such as the more peaceful southern end of Milton Road. Hotel rates in Flagstaff tend to get cheaper the further east you travel.
An alternative for those looking for cheap accommodation in the Flagstaff area can be found at several well-equipped campsites and RV (Recreational Vehicle) parks nearby. One of the best campsites in Flagstaff is the Fort Tuthill Coconino County Park, which stands to the south of downtown Flagstaff next to a vast pine forest, offering plenty of nearby hiking trails. Another popular campsite in the area is the Flagstaff Grand Canyon KOA, which is located on the northeastern side of Flagstaff, along Highway 89. This camping ground has the advantage of being close to both the popular Sunset Crater Volcano Monument and the Wupatki National Monument. As with hotels, campsite accommodation in and around Flagstaff can be extremely popular during the peak summer season and may become fully booked, so advance reservations are advisable.
